Joseph Kiwanuka
Father of two young children, Joseph is a meticulous, patient, and curious producer. As the project’s first partner, he’s especially happy to get to know the consumers of his cacao and to gain visibility in the world of chocolate.
In the Kasawo region, northeast of the capital Kampala, Joseph grows his cacao with passion, supported by his wife and parents. The father of three young children, Joseph is an enterprising, reserved, and conscientious young cacao farmer. He delivers his fresh cacao to Henry Lwanga, who ferments it and then dries it so it can be shipped.
In May 2021, we installed solar panels at Joseph’s home, giving him access to electricity—a new comfort appreciated by the whole family.
In June 2023, we also provided him with a motorbike. Joseph and his family were truly over the moon!
Intensely dark, Joseph’s cacao offers a pleasant bitterness and powerful cocoa notes. Low in acidity, it evokes linden honey, dried fruits, and the forest floor of tropical woods, with a subtle hint of licorice. It pairs beautifully with coffee.
